Hello,

I am using emacs 22.2.1 on Win32. I am using nXhtml (http://ourcomments.org/Emacs/nXhtml/doc/nxhtml.html) and I see that smarty mode is a part of that package. When I open a .tpl smarty template file emacs doesn't recognize that it is a smarty template file, and the editing mode is instead the "Fundamental" mode.

How do I make emacs recognize that a .tpl file is a smarty file?

I installed emacs via the Cygwin setup program, and so therefore the nXhtml mode that normally comes with the Win32 install of emacs didn't seem to be installed by Cygwin, so I downloaded it independently and installed it in my emacs lisp load path. Editing XHTML with javascript works fine, beautifully.

I just starting playing with this php-mode, so maybe this is can be solved with a customization, but here's my issue. I like to put a space after conditions, like 'for', 'while', etc. This makes them stand out from function calls.

Anyway, if I type 'for<space>', the 'f' gets replaced by a <space> and the cursor is positioned on the 'o'. Similar thing happens for 'while'. What's going on? How can I disable this?

> I would prefer indentation of the template, since
> that is the file that is being worked on.

For a HTML template I'm OK with the indentation of the template. But for a TEXT template (a template used to send an email by example), the indentation must be accorded to the result (or you will have an unreadable email with a lot of space and empty line).

I think I'll add an option to select the indentation type (template indentation or result indentation).

> How do you edit the files without indentation? Do
> you line up all of the html/smarty on the left?

I manually indent the template according to what I exepect.

> By thw way, thanks for working on this. Very cool
> project.

Thanks

Hi,

I didn't have implemented the indentation feature in the smarty-mode because there are no real rules to indent smarty templates.

What is best? The indentation of the template or the indentation of the final file (output of the smarty engine)?
